Van Eck set for senior volleyball season

REED CITY — Alexis Van Eyk is a Reed City volleyball senior who is anxious to get the season going.

She’s in her second varsity season. She saw action last year as a right and middle hitter. She’ll be a left hitter this season.

“I have a better angle to hit,” she said. “At the right, you don’t get a lot of volleyballs toward you. A setter normally sets them out instead of behind.”

That’s been her focus during the summer and Van Eyk indicated she’s made progress.

Summer volleyball “has been really important,” she said. “I’ve been practicing on getting my timing down for hitting. You have to see where the other team is and you decide from there.”

Van Eyk feels she has made strides in being able to make the correct, quick decisions on where to place the ball and how hard to hit it.

The Coyotes will have some experience returning this season.

“We have two seniors and three juniors,” Van Eyk said.

Practices start Aug. 10 but it’s a down time for athletes right now. Van Eyk has a volleyball at home and said she’ll continue to work on her game. She also plays soccer.
