Two Evart girl players receive all-conference honors

EVART – It was an impressive 15-7 girls basketball season for the Evart Wildcats girls basketball squad, which placed two players on the All-Highland Conference basketball team recently announced.

Addy Gray was a junior who averaged 14.9 points per game and shot 76 percent from the free-throw line. Gray netted six 3-pointers in two games this season, back-to-back. She started all 22 games and led the team in scoring and also in 3-pointers made with 40.

Also making all-league honors was Skylar Baumgardner, an Evart senior, who averaged 13.4 points and 2.7 steals per game She scored 13 points in one quarter against Roscommon.

“She started all 22 games this year and averaged over 5.5 field goals made per game,” Evart coach Matt Tiedt said.

The Wildcats also had a strong season from freshman Emma Dyer who averaged 9.0 points a game and made 36 triples as a freshman and 2.2 steals per game.

Evart’s boys basketball team had two players who received All-Highland Conference honors.

Junior Marcel White was on the first team. He averaged 9.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.4 steals per game. He scored the game winner at Roscommon and led the team to a season sweep of McBain.

“He was a team captain and leader on the floor and led our team in points and assists, and was second in rebounding and steals,” Evart coach Kris Morgan said.

Dakobe White, was a sophomore who earned honorable mention honors. He averaged 8.7 points 3.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.2 steals per game.
“He was a sophomore starting guard in his first year on varsity, and led the defense,” Morgan said. “He has a good future and had a good first year.”
