Tuttle scoring key points for Evart cross country team

EVART — Senior Ryan Tuttle is playing a key part on a strong Evart cross country team this season.

He’s in his fourth year of cross country. He was on the 2012 team that was runners-up in the state.

“Last year was my first year on varsity,” he said. “I was a top six guy. This year, I’ve worked up to be the fifth guy through some hard work and catching people.”

His best time this season has been 17:58. Last season his best time was 18:04. It was a busy summer and he’s happy with his fall running.

Tuttle is hoping for a 17:10 or perhaps 16:50 before the season ends.

“It will take hard work,” he said, adding that the best part of his race has been “keeping my pace, catching the next guy, catching guys.”

Tuttle said his second mile into his third mile has been a strength. But he wants to keep working on his pacing.

Evart is focusing in on another Highland Conference title and hopes to be regional and state contenders.

“We’re happy where we’re at,” Tuttle said. “We’re hoping to get all-conference, that’s in my favor right now.”

The Wildcats graduated all-staters Logan Hammer and David Zinger from last season.

“We’ve been filling in,” Tuttle said. “We may be a little better team from last year.”
