TUSTIN — Art Black lives a couple miles north of a place he enjoys being at during the summer: Tustin Trails Golf Course.

The course enables Black to continue a passion that’s been going strong for six decades.

The Tustin resident has been playing for 13 lucky years in the Thursday men’s scramble league.

“It had been going a little bit before me a couple of years,” Black said.

There’s between 30 to 40 men in the Thursday league.

“It’s a nice course, the people are nice, nobody cares who wins,” Black smiled. “The course is always kept up in good shape. These are friendly people. I’m just happy to be able to play.”

He has played the sport close to 60 years. He also plays at the Rose and at McGuires. The Thursday league is the only one he’s been playing on at Tustin Trails.

“It’s well-kept,” Black said. “The greens are always nice. I’m just happy to play.”

Black is retired, and plays for fun, calling his game “shaky.”

He’s retired but lives year round in the Tustin area. Like other golfers, Black appreciates the warm Thursdays he’s had to play in the league, although the weather has been relatively cool throughout much of the summer.
