Turley enters final varsity season as Evart setter

EVART  —  Tabby Turley is into her senior season as a setter for the Evart volleyball team.

Turley again will be the quarterback of the team as a setter. But she’ll also be a leader with a team that features only herself and Kristen Kullman as returning players. She’s been setting three years on the varsity.

“I think we had a lot better season last year than in previous years,” Turley said.

The team started with a new coach last season in Krissy Weidenfeller.

“We really improved last year,” Turley said.

Turley is in other sports including basketball and track. She tried to make it to open gyms during the summer, she added.

Turley has been working on her setting, especially with eight new players on the team. She’s had experience with some of them, but is trying to figure out how her other teammates play and where they want the ball for their hits.

It also will be a key, Turley added, for the passers to get the ball over to her on each play so that she’s able to make the proper set.

“I’ll need to be a leader this season,” Turley added.

Evart’s first league home match is Tuesday with McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
