Turkey rendezvous set for Saturday in Baldwin

BALDWIN — It’s called by event promoters the largest gathering of turkey hunters in Michigan.

The 35th annual Turkey Hunters Rendezvous, is set for Saturday, March 26 at Baldwin High School.

The event is sponsored by the Pere Marquette Chapter of the Michigan Wild Turkey Hunters Association, and will feature vendor exhibits, door prizes and calling clinics.

Registration is 8-to-9 a.m. and will be followed by classes and a calling contest. In the afternoon, the event shifts to the VFW Hall north of Baldwin to the turkey shoot and turkey dinner.

Pere Marquette Chapter president Jim Maturen, of Reed City, said no main speakers are on the agenda. But there will be other featured presenters at the event, including local DNR wildlife biologist Erin Victory or another DNR technician. Steve Cunningham of the Wexford Land Conservancy, which covers Osceola County, will be attending. Rick Lucas, Mecosta-Osceola-Lake conservation district, will also make an appearance.

Maturen will also have a presentation for attendees.

Anticipated turnout for the entire day is 200 individuals.

The Pere Marquette Chapter is dedicated to promoting the preservation of the turkey habitat everywhere, including northwest Michigan, especially through feeding programs.
