BIG RAPIDS – Paris area resident and host of TV’s Wilderness Journal Kyle Randall put it this way:

“There’s not been too much outdoors going on, but a little.”

Randall agreed fishing is in a transition period. But he’s excited with prospects for turkey season which starts later this month.

“With all this weather it’s slow although there are guys fishing on the eastside of the state,” he said. “Some guys went over and took some nice walleye last week. Locally we’re waiting for the water levels to warm and clear.

“Turkey season will be starting soon. I’m seeing quite a few turkeys. I think it will be a good turkey season if the wind cooperates. I haven’t heard of anyone picking mushrooms yet. It will probably take some warm days and that will start. Other than that, the out of doors is in a cleanup and get ready mode. Everyone is getting their gear around and anxious to get started. It will be here pretty quick.”
