Trio’s strong outings help Evart split pair of games
EVART – It was a fun Friday night for the Evart Wildcats in a 57-27 trouncing of Marion Friday night in Highland Conference girls basketball action. Evart had a 48-17 lead after the third quarter.
“We had a pretty good start, it was 18-2 after the first quarter,” said Evart coach Kris Morgan.
Jarek VanOrder had a big night with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Preston Boyd contributed 14 points for Evart while Jesse Lang had 11 points and 10 rebounds, plus five assists.
“Our big three helped us out,” said Morgan.
On Monday (Feb. 20), the Wildcats lost at Montabella 47-38 in non-league action.
Evart is now 6-10. Montabella is 12-5. Evart trailed 11-5 after the first quarter, 18-15 at halftime and 30-24 after the third quarter. Montabella had a 17-14 scoring edge in the final eight minutes.
Lang hit three 3-point shots for Evart and had 13 points. VanOrder had 11.
Evart lost 55-40 to Lake City on Feb. 14. Lake City was up 31-13 at the half.
VanOrder had 16 points and 17 rebounds.
“We had a really bad start,” Morgan said. “We played right into their hands.”
Evart is home Thursday with Pine River and plays next Tuesday at McBain. The regular-season home finale is March 1 with McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
