Track athletes qualify for state meet

BENZONIA - Reed City track coach Brad Smith liked what he saw on Friday in the regional meet at Benzonia.

The 4x100 relay team with Aiden Mieras, Logan Bregg, Seth Jackson and Noah Jones (46.30) won with a season record.

Jones also was second in the 200 (23.62). He and his relay team are going to the state meet.

Abbi Kiaunis (1:02.50) finished first in the 400 and was shy of qualifying for the state finals also in the 800 (2:28.73) in fourth.

"She just missed it, so I'd say a good day for our sprinting crews and Abbi," Smith said.

Out of 16 teams, Reed City was 15th for the women and 12th for the boys.

For the boys, Evart was eighth and Pine River ninth. Pine River was fifth and Evart 11th for the girls.

For the Evart girls. Mackenzi Van Buren was first in the long jump (17-1 ½), and Kara Henry second in the high jump (4-10),

For Evart boys, Cannan Morgan was fifth in the 400 meters (54.53), the 4x200 relay team of Kamden Darling, Dakobe White, Marcel White and Bryant Calderon (1:37.27) was third, and Morgan was second (6-0) and Darling third (5-10) in the high jump.

For Pine River boys, Jayce Methner was third in the 800 meters (2:04.96). Logan Churchill was second in the 1,600 meters (4:32.45) and third in the 3,200 meters (9:50.02).

For the Pine River girls, Lorean Yeoman was third in the discus, Lynnesia Belvin, Sydney Edstrom, Kendra Montague and Ellie Rigling were second in the 4x400 relay 4:18.17, while Belvin, Edstrom, Montague and Rigling were first in the 4x200 relay (1:50.62). Belvin was first (27.05) and Montague second (27.61) in the 200 meters.
