EVART – Evart blanked Cedar Springs’s softball team 10-0 in the championship game of the Tri County Invitational on Saturday, capping off an impressive weekend.

Ally  Gray was the winning pitcher in the championship game and pitched a complete game. She allowed one hit and struck out nine batters.

Evart had a big six-run sixth inning, led by a triple from Kylynn Thompson, a double by Kate Gostlin and singles by Ally Theunick and Skylar Baumgardner.

Earlier in the day, Evart had a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids Catholic Central. It was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth when Riley Brigham had an RBI single.

Gray was the winning pitcher, striking out 12. She also had two hits. Evart did not make an error during the game.

Evart, 16-5 overall, also had a 21-1 win over Tri County during the day.

Coach Amanda Brown continues to be happy with her team’s play.

“Kate Gostlin has been doing a great job in the batter's box (.588)and behind the plate,” Brown said. “She has been doing a really good job, Addy Gray has been a force in the pitching circle and also in the batter's box (.455), Skyler Baumgardner has thrown a few girls out from center field this last week and also has been hitting the ball well (.383). Kylnn Thompson has been hitting the ball well (.359) and pitching very well also.

“Brooklyn Decker has been hitting the ball well (.393) and playing well defensively wherever she is needed. Jo Tiedt has been hitting well with a .391 and playing a very solid second base. Rylee Brigham has been playing a really good outfield making some really good catches. She is also hitting the ball well.”

It was a special weekend.

"We played really good defense and ran bases well," Brown said. "We faced different styles of pitching. We were happy with how we hit. I was proud of them."

The Wildcats are home with McBain on Tuesday and play at the Reed City Invitational on Saturday.

Evart 1-1

Evart was 1-1 in Thursday softball action.

Ogemaw Heights won the first game 5-3. Kylynn Thompson took the loss for Evart, striking out three and allowing 10 hits. Ally Theunick had a home run for Evart.

Evart won the second game 3-1. Katelynn Gostlin had a two-run double. Gray was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and one run while striking out 10 and walking none. JoJo Tiedt had three hits for Evart.

Pine River 15, Lakeview 5

Pine River 15, Lakeview 6 

Amanda Hill was the winning pitcher in the first game for Pine River on Thursday. She fanned five batters and scattered four hits. Hill had four hits and three RBI. Lani Spark had three RBIs.

In the second game, Sadler Mumby was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and allowing five hits and five walks.

Hill had four hits and two RBIs.
