Three Reed City players earn all-conference honors

REED CITY — Three Reed City boys basketball players received honors from the Central State Activities Association Gold Division action.

Chris Barton was selected to the first team, while Andre Jones drew second team honors and Nolan Patterson was on the honorable mention list.

Barton and Patterson were senior co-captains. Barton had 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 61 percent from the floor.

Coach Dean McGuire noted how much of a leader Barton was to the team this season.

“He improved his game from last year,” McGuire said.

Jones, a junior, averaged 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He shot 34 percent from the floor.

“He had some big shots for us this year,” McGuire said.

Patterson averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.

“Nolan battled injuries and when he was able to play, we were a tough team to match up with,” McGuire said. “He has a great skill set, right-hand, left hand, finishes well around the rim. Unfortunately, for him in four years you should play 80 games plus. I don’t know if he got to 50. He did a nice job for us when he was healthy. His stat line doesn’t show what be brought to our team.”

In the final CSAA Gold standings, Reed City finished fourth. Big Rapids and Newaygo tied for first, while Grant was third, Central Montcalm fifth, Chippewa Hills sixth and Tri County seventh.
