LEROY — Olivia Thompson’s junior season was a strong one.

She basically saved her best for last with a personal record of 21:45.9 late in the season at the Manistee National Invitational.

“I’ve been breaking into some 22s,” she said midway during the season. “I keep pushing harder to get my better times.”

It was hard for Thompson to say whether or not this has been her best season.

“My freshman year was pretty good,” she said. “I think I’m getting up there.”

Her best time as a freshman 21.52.2 at regionals.

“It will take some dedication, strong runs and training hard every day,” she said. “I have a really good start. My first mile is usually good and I can hold it to the second mile. My finish is something I can always work on.”

Pine River had 13 runners this season with six on varsity and seven on JV.

“It’s the best year we’ve had since I’ve been running cross country,” Thompson said.
