Thomas contributing for Coyotes in first varsity season
REED CITY -- Jason Thomas has been a welcomed new addition to the Reed City varsity boys basketball team.
Thomas and the Coyotes resumed their schedule at home on Tuesday against Clare and are at home against Tri County on Friday;
"Jason Thomas is a first-year player at Reed City as far as the varsity is concerned," Reed City coach Jesse Kailing said.
"He brings a lot of energy and a work ethic that is second to none. I enjoy having him in the program and he's a great teammate."
Thomas, a senior, did not play last year.
He came back for "the love of the game of basketball and we have a new coach staff this year," he said.
Thomas was able to get in some basketball work during the summer.
"It's pretty good," Thomas said of the varsity level. "It's a little more high speed than what I'm used to."
He played junior varsity in the past.
"They want me to bring intensity, that's the key," Thomas, a guard/small forward said.
He indicated defense is the strongest part of the game.
"I'm pretty quick and I hustle pretty well," Thomas said. "I'm trying to get more aggressive to the basket. I need to work on (driving) a little more."
The Coyotes have started out 0-4 against a tough schedule.
"We have to increase the intensity and hustle of our game and be more motivated to get the rebounds and loose balls."
Thomas also plays baseball for Reed City.
