EVART — Jessica Tea would love duplicating or improving on her high jump performance as a freshman at the 2011 state finals.

But Tea, now a junior, realizes it doesn’t come easy.

She cleared 5-3 and took fourth in 2011 as a freshman. She didn’t place last season.

She’ll be in the high jump plus the 400-meter relay for the Wildcats this spring and also the 200 and 400-meter runs.

Tea expects to be pushed by another Evart high jumper this season with Mara VanOrder, a talented freshman.

Tea will try for 5-6 in the high jump.

“I’ll have to practice a lot and work on my form,” she said.

The weather prevented the Wildcats from getting outside for practices in the three weeks prior to spring break. But Tea said she‘s able to work on the event effectively indoors.

In the 200, Tea will be shooting for 26 seconds and below.

“I have a good start,” she said. “I think I’ll get better.”

Evart will be running at the Morley Stanwood Invitational on April 13. They also run at Harrison on April 15 and at the Ithaca Invitational April 20. The first home meet is April 23 with Lake City and McBain.

“We don’t  have a lot of girls,” Tea said. “I think we have more talent this year.”
