T.J. Patterson named to AP's all-state football team

REED CITY — The Associated Press all-state football team for Division 5-6 included lineman T.J.Patterson of Reed City, a senior, on the first team.

The honorable mention list includes running back Jon Green and lineman Ian MacDonald, of Reed City, and running back Brandon Fulks and lineman Jeff Gross, of Pine River.

Patterson was a senior with 12 games at left tackle. “He helped us amass almost 5,000 total yards,” Reed City coach Monty Price said. “He played a significant role in allowing us to gain over 300 yards on the ground against a very solid West Catholic team in the regional final. Defensively, he was dominating at defensive line, (with) 66 tackles, three (tackles for loss) and two sacks.”

MacDonald, a senior, in 12 games on the offensive line “was a right guard who helped us amass almost 5,000 total yards,” Price said. “Defensively, he was a dominating defensive lineman with 49 tackles, seven (tackles for loss), four sacks and was first team all-conference.”

Fulks, also a return player, gained 885 yards on 119 carries with 14 touchdowns and caught 23 passes for 228 yards and four scores. Fulks also had five punt returns for 230 yards and two touchdowns and 14 kickoff returns for 425 yards and three scores.

“He is a little guy with exceptional agility and speed,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said. “When you put that much agility into a kid with great football intelligence, vision and desire, you end up with a lot of touchdowns.”

Gross recorded 77 tackles including five for a loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one safety and one punt block.

“Jeff turned out to be a big playmaker for us this year,” Martin said. “He made a lot of key plays including a safety, punt block, timely sacks and fumbles. Last year, he had a solid year, especially on offense, but this year he returned after a great summer and was stronger, faster and had more knowledge of his position.”
