Sweet looking for banner season as Reed City football senior
REED CITY — Darrien Sweet and his Reed City teammates are putting in plenty of summer hours to get ready for the upcoming season.
Sweet, 5-11, 190, a senior offensive right guard, started for the varsity last season, and is working with his teammates to gear up for the 2013 campaign. Practices officially start Aug. 12 and the opener is Aug. 29 with Big Rapids.
“It was a pretty good season,” Sweet said of the 2012 season. “We worked hard in the summer. During the season we worked hard. I had a lot of fun.”
Sweet has been working out ever since the season ended to stay in shape.
“I’d say I’m stronger from last year,” he said, noting that his summer schedule has included weight-lifting and blocking camps, “They improve your skills. It also hopes in allowing the returnees to get to know the newcomers to the varsity.”
Everyone’s ready for preseason camp, Sweet added. There’s other camps coming up prior to the Aug. 12 preseason debut.
The Coyotes are two-time defending Central State Activities Association champs. They’ve had two straight 9-0 regular seasons.
