Reed City golfers second in CSAA

CEDAR SPRINGS -- Another conference title.

When it comes to winning high school conference championships, Big Rapids boys golf team knows how to dominate and secure the hardware.

The Cardinals won the 2022 Central State Activities Association title on Tuesday afternoon at Cedar Chase Golf Course in Cedar Springs. Big Rapids won it with a 351. Reed City was second at 364. Chippewa Hills was third at 373.

With the title,  Big Rapids has won 16 consecutive conference championships dating back to the league’s inception in 2004.

Reed City finished second in the conference with a team total of 1,767.

Fisher Morrison led the Coyotes with a score of 319 for a third-place league finish while Michael Perris’ league score was 352, good for a ninth-place league ending.

Reed City coach Chris Hanson was pleased with his squad.

“We finished in second place last year as well,” he said. “But I’m pleased we played better and had lower scores.”

First team all-conference players locally are Morrison and Perri of Reed City and Morgan and Remus of Chippewa Hills.

Honorable mention golfers are Steers of Big Rapids, Nick Wirgau, Eric Pullen and Ty Kailing of Reed City.
