LEROY — Morgan Sumpter and her Pine River Bucks are ready to take on the critical October part of the fall volleyball schedule.

“So far, I feel we’ve been on a roller-coaster ride,” she said. “We’ve shown glimpses of what we can really do and sometimes we’re kind of like downhill.”

When the team is uphill, everything is working, Sumpter added. “We’re communicating, we’re executing our skills, we’re really playing as a team.”

But when it’s downhill, “you can honestly hear silence on the court,”  she said. “We’re (working to) making sure we execute our skills, and definitely making sure we communicate on the court at all times.”

One of the team’s best games of the season may have been against Hopkins, Sumpter recalls, at the Cadillac Invitational. The Bucks also are 3-0 this season against Reed City.

Her setting “is going really well,” Sumpter said. “I need to communicate more.”

The Bucks are at Evart Tuesday. They hope to be playing their best by district time.

“We definitely need to communicate more and execute our skills,” Sumpter said. “Definitely McBain will be tough. We hope to see Lake City again.”
