LEROY — Jordan Stone is looking for his senior season to be his best for the Pine River wrestling team.

He’s at 112 pounds this season for the Bucks. He placed eighth at state at 112 pounds a year ago. His goal is to return and finish higher.

Coming into January, Stone was at 8-3.

“I’ve been wrestling pretty good,” he said. “We’ve been wrestling people at higher divisions this year. We’re getting ready for our Division 4 (matches). Those three losses were against defending state champs. It helps me out.”

Stone has been working at hand control and blocking shots.

“I usually work off of their shots so that when they shoot, it’s defensive-offensive wrestling they call it,” Stone said.

As the Bucks head into the January part of their schedule, Stone likes the way he’s been wrestling so far.

“The team is looking pretty good,” he said. “We’ve been going up against superior teams, higher division teams. We’re matching up pretty well against them. I’m proud of them. I would say there’s room for improvement.”

But Stone is expecting plenty out of this team before the season ends. The Bucks are at Reed City for an invitational Saturday.
