Stokes enjoys excellent season
EVART— Evart sprinter Kyle Stokes has had an excellent season for the Wildcats and he didn’t hold anything back on Tuesday (May 22).
Stokes won a pair of first places for Evart in the Highland Conference meet. McBain topped the eight-team bohs field with 177 while
Evart was fourth at 85 and Pine River sixth at 52.50.
For the girls, McBain won with 118 followed by Manton with 114. Beal City with 92. Lake City with 88.5, Pine River 85 and Evart with 68.
Stokes won the 100 in 11.11 and the 200 (23/10). Nathan Woods was second (4:44.65) in the 1,600-meter run and Austin Hamilton was third (4:52.99) in the 1,600-meter run.
Zolan Long was third in the high jump (5-10) and Richard Foster was second in the pole vault (11-0). Hamilton was second (10:29.18) and Woods third (10:37.24) in the 3,200 meter run.
For Pine River, Elijah Lewis (52.09) won the 400 dash and was second in the long jump (19-8.50).
“So far it’s been a pretty good season,” Stokes said. “I’ve been winning a lot. Getting a lot of medals.”
It’s his junior season and he’s met expectations. “I PRed in the 100 twice and the 200 is getting better. The 100 has been my best one. I’ve had good starts and good finishes accelerating all the way through”
Stokes wants to break the school record and place top three in the state meet on June 2.
“We did about what we could do,” Evart coach Dennis Peacock said. Stokes had really good day and he has a good year. The distance kids did well again. We’re taking three kids to the state meet (Stokes, Woods, Hamilton) and all three have a chance to place;”
For Pine River, Kendra Montague was second in the 100-meter dash (13.44)
Abigail Dennis was second (1:05.82) and Montague third (1;06.21) in the 400-meter dash/ Anselma Barnett was third (5:50.23) in the 1,600-meter and fourth in the 3,200-meter run (13:16.05). Ally Bannon was third the high jump (4-8).
Pine River was second in the 4x400 relay (4:22.66) and the 4x800 relay (10:50). For Evart, McKenzie VanBuren was fourth in the 100 meters (13.60)
Kara Henry, Macey Wallace, McKenzie Van Buren and Angela Gibbins was first in the 4x100 meter relay (53.04). Evart won the 4x100 relay with Henry, Wallace, VanBuren and Angela Gibbins (53.04) and the same foursome won the 3,200 (1:52.60).
Wallace won the long jump (14-9 ½). Kelci Elder was third in the shot put (31-5) and third in the discus (94-8).
