Stokely finds her groove as Pine River pitcher

LEROY — Alexis Stokely is in her senior season with Pine River's softball team and played a key role in the pitching rotation to help the Bucks stay competitive.

Pine River swept Evart and Marion late in the season. Stokely was among the winning pitchers She was the winning pitcher in her team's 10-9 win over Reed City in the district semifinals.

Stokely shared pitching duties with Brooke Pennington. Throughout the season, she saw plenty of improvement.

“We're finally getting our bat on the ball,” she said. “We're trusting each other on defense and I think that's huge.”

As a pitcher, Stokely said she was finding spots much better.

“My leadership on the field helps a lot,” she said, noting that the Bucks have generally been a young and inexperienced team this season.

Stokely has pitched in the past but notes this is the first time she was a starter.

“Hitting spots and getting my change-up down,” is what Stokely focused on during the season. “I want to place the ball so our defense can get it.”

Her hitting has also improved Stokely added.

The Bucks lost to McBain 12-2 in the district finals to end their season at 9-19.
