Spring Valley set for another busy summer
REED CITY — It’s another busy summer season at Spring Valley Golf Course.
The course again has been featuring seven leagues. It starts on Sunday with the scramble with players coming midafternoon and the league making the foursomes. The final day is Sept. 18.
Monday features the Master league open to men 55 and older, with teeoff early afternoon. Final game is Sept. 26. Later that afternoon, the Monday women have their weekly league and will continue until Sept. 19.
The Tuesday Men’s League is open to any skill level and tees off late afternoon. The final day is Sept. 13. Wednesdays has the women’s league with teeoff time midmorning. The final day is Sept. 14. It’s the men’s league on Thursday evenings with a playoff round on Sept. 8 and wrap-up day on Sept. 10. It’s a partner league with 5 p.m. shotgun start.
The Friday Couples League begins later Friday afternoons. The final evening is Sept. 16.
Other events coming up are Great American Crossroads Festival and Ladies Invitational in August, the Spring Valley Revenge in September and the membership Plaid party at the end of the season.
Golf course official Sharon McGreehan said the league lineup is basically the same from a year ago. All leagues are open for walkons.
“The Thursday Men has 28 golfers every week,” she said. “We’ve had a ton of (golf) outings. June (was) busy. I wasn’t sure we’d be able to keep up, but we have.”
The Ladies Invitational on Aug. 13 will be 18 holes. McGreehan said invitations were sent out to women from 14 golf clubs to attend the event.
The course, like others, has been basically able to stay green this summer.
“There’s been just enough rain,” McGreehan said. “The greens are in good shape.”
