REED CITY — Activity is picking up at the Reed City Sportsman Club.

Terry Getts said the winter league on trap and skeet shooting starts with the Jan. 8 for the signup day. That will be for 12 weeks and the last shoot is April 8.

It’s been a longtime popular area activity on weekends

A featured event will be what Getts calls “Calcutta.”

“We’ll be shooting against ourselves instead of teams,” he said. “(Calcutta) is what they’ve always called it.”

The club also has Wednesday afternoon shoots, along with Sundays. There will also be leagues that aren’t open to the public, unless a participant joins the league.

“When winter leagues start you can come and practice and see what it’s like,” Getts said.

Leagues also start on Jan. 15. League activity is different than the open shoots, Getts indicated.

Turnouts have been impressive in the past.

“Normally, there’s 10 five-man teams,” Getts said. “If anyone is interested in getting on a team, we can do that. Just show up.”

Getts is the club’s secretary. Individuals can go to the club’s website or Facebook page, he said, for more information.
