LEROY -- New Pine River soccer coach Jennifer Hoaglund will be gathering with her team this week to get the practice season going. A camp is set for this Wednesday.

The first game is Aug. 17 at home against Custer Mason County Eastern.

Hoaglund anticipates having about 20 players for the varsity including some girls. Pine River doesn’t have a separate girls team. There was a team meeting July 30. Hoaglund said she hasn’t determined yet how big her team will be.


REED CITY -- The fourth annual Spring Valley’s Revenge is set for Sept. 9 at Spring Valley Golf Course.

It will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start with a two-person scramble format. The 18 holes, with a cart, include lunch after golf and cash prizes. It’s $35 per person and $70 per team. The entry form can be given to Jeff Smith at (231) 388-0975 or dropped off at Spring Valley Golf Course.

REED CITY -- The seventh annual Reed City Athletics Golf Outing will be 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, at Spring Valley Golf Course. It will be $60 per person. That includes 18 holes with cart, hot dogs at the turn, steak dinner, longest drive, longest putt, closest to the pin and prizes for first place in each division.

All proceeds will help fund Reed City Athletics. Golfers will have a chance to putt for a grill and to win a big screen TV or a free car sponsored by Crossroads Chevrolet.
