Districts next week
EVART — Evart will be hosting a Class C district next week and the host Wildcats will be taking on Pine River in a first-round game 6 p.m. on Monday.
The winner faces Lake City 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The finals are 7 p.m. on Friday.
In the Class B districts at Big Rapids, Reed City faces. Clare 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27. The finals are 7 p.m. Friday, March 1.
Reed City 50, White Cloud 41 (OT)
WHITE CLOUD — The Reed City boys basketball team almost blew a big lead, but recovered in time to take a 50-41 overtime victory over White Cloud on Thursday.
The Coyotes led by as many as 16 points in the contest, but the Indians came storming back behind a barrage of 3-pointers.
White Cloud held a 3-point lead in the fourth quarter before Reed City’s Chad Samuels stepped up and knocked down a triple to tie it.
The Coyotes had a chance to win it in overtime, but their last second shot bounced off the rim to end regulation at 37-37.
“We played really, really well (in overtime),” Reed City coach Dean McGuire said. “We got a second chance and we made it happen.”
The Coyotes were led by Samuels with 20 points. Kyle Wright added 11 points, 11 rebounds and six steals.
Reed City is in action Tuesday when it hosts Fremont.
Pine River 66, Manton 25
LEROY — The Pine River girls basketball team put the finishing touches of a 19-win season with a 66-25 victory over Manton on Friday.
The Bucks led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Pine River concludes the Highland Conference with a perfect 14-0 record.
The Bucks were paced by Jamie Justin with 21 points and three assists. Kassy Nelson added 12 points and five rebounds and Devyn Powell tallied 12 points.
Cayman Gatt recorded six points, five assists and five steals and Haley Raymond finished with six points and six steals.
Pine River is off until Wednesday when it faces the winner of the Lake City-Manton contest in the Class C district semfinal at Pine River.
