Sports briefs for July 25

SOFTBALL

LEROY — Pine River’s softball team fell to Cadillac 8-4 in the first game of a doubleheader July 17 at Cadillac.

Pine River led 4-0 in the second game before it was called in the middle of the second inning because of lightning.

Paige Esiline and Brooke Pennington pitched for the Bucks. Esiline took the loss.

Pennington had a double and four RBIs. Jandney Mattson had two hits.

Pine River is off this week but has a LAT League twinbill July 31 at Reed City.

BASEBALL

LEROY — Pine River’s baseball team blanked Manton 15-0 on the road in a summer game last week.

“A lot of our young guys played,” said Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert.

The win ended the summer season for the Bucks.

SOCCER

REED CITY — AYSO will be hosting a British Soccer Camp in Reed City the week of Aug. 6 to Aug. 10. The camp will run Monday through Friday of that week and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,100 British soccer coaches flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.
