Sports briefs for Aug. 1
REED CITY -- The summer softball season ended for Reed City this past Tuesday in a scheduled twinbill with Pine River, but coach Roger Steig said his girls would be back in action soon after a two-week break.
Steig said some of his players would be in a fall league down in Grand Rapids.
Reed City’s summer Wednesday games at Mount Pleasant ended last week. Reed City lost 8-2 to Vestaburg. Julieanne Griffin was the pitcher for RC, striking out seven batters and allowing eight hits and one walk. Reed City had two hits with one apiece for Greer, Skyler Brigham, Hanna Price and Griffin.
In the second game, a 7-1 loss to Chippewa Hills, Price was the pitcher for Reed City, fanning five batters, walking two and allowing six hits. Reed City had two hits with one apiece for Griffin and Price.
LEROY -- The Wednesday Night Hog Hunters of Osceola County had two winners at its recent tournament at Rose Lake. Steve Alberts won for the biggest bass at 5.54 pounds, He also had the best three-fish total weight at 13.21 pounds. Mike Engels won for best critter weight at 4.23 pounds.
Two more local tournaments are coming up in Aug. 8 at Big Lake and Aug. 15 at Rose Lake. The times are 6-9 p.m.
REED CITY -- AYSO will be hosting a British Soccer Camp in Reed City the week of Aug. 6 to Aug. 10. The camp will run Monday through Friday of that week and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,100 British soccer coaches flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.
