Grant 12, Reed City 11

GRANT – Reed City lost this game on Friday in CSAA Gold action.

Xavier Allen had a double and RBI for RC. Payton Hansen had a double and two runs scored. Bryce Wein had a hit and two RBIs. Allen went five innings and allowed three hits, while striking out 11.

RC sweeps Clare

REED CITY – Reed City’s baseball team swept Clare on Tuesday (April 13) in nonleague games 5-4 and 13-3.

In the first game, Payton Hansen was the winning pitcher. He allowed two hits, four runs, struck out seven and walked two. Xavier Allen was the starting pitcher and allowed two hits while having seven strikeouts.

Hansen had two hits and an RBI. Max Hammond had a hit with two runs scored.

Reed City had five runs on seven hits.

The second game was called because of darkness. Reed City was ahead 13-3. Hammond had two hits with three runs scored. Hansen had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Treyvor Conklin had one hit and three RBIs.

Pine River sweeps Forest Area

The Bucks won two games on Tuesday (April 13) 19-0 and 15-0 in a pair of three-inning contests.

Forest Area had no hits.

Winning pitcher in the first game was Austin Dean with five strikeouts, no hits and five walks.

Dean was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Garett Sumpter was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Austin Latoski was the winning pitcher in the second game. He went two innings and had six strikeouts, one walk and no hits. Connor Rouse had two hits and two RBIs. Dean and Cash Wheeler both had a single and two RBIs.


Evart 1-1

EVART – Evart’s softball team lost to Charlevoix in the first game of a doubleheader 2-0 on Saturday.

Both pitchers fanned nine batters on the other side.

Ryenn Baumgardner had a single in the third inning. Addy Gray took the pitching loss, allowing three hits.

In the second game, Evart won 9-6. The Wildcats had 10 hits.

Veronica Lofquist had a home run and Ally Theunick had a solo home run, back-to-back. Lofquist had a five-hitter in five innings. Liz VanAssche also had a home run. Gray had three hits.

Evart is scheduled to be home on Tuesday against Clare Friday at Lake City and Saturday at Traverse City.

Reed City 0-2

Reed City lost two games to Grant in CSAA action on Friday.

It was 7-6 in the opener. Pitcher of record was Rylie Shafer. She gave up seven runs,with six earned on four hits, walked nine and struck out three. Leading hitter with two hits was Shafer. With one hit each was Kaylin Goodman, Desaray Conklin and Isabell Guy. It was 17-1 in the nightcap.

Shafer was the pitcher of record. She gave up eight runs with one earned on five hits and walked three. Lily Andres pitched middle relief and gave up five runs, no hits and eight walks. Izabell Guy came in relief and gave up four runs on one hit and four walks. Guy scored Reed City’s only run on a walk with three stolen bases.


Pine River takes first

MORLEY – Pine River’s boys were first and Morley Stanwood second in Saturday’s Mohawk Relays.

Pine River had 62 for the boys to top the eight-team field. Morley Stanwood had 55. Crossroads was eighth with six.

Montague was first with 86 for the girls. Morley Stanwood was third at 55, Pine River fourth at 42 and Crossroads seventh at eight.

Pine River was led by the 4x800 relay team of Isaiah Dennis, Jayce Methner, Philip Rigling and Logan Churchill (8:59.5). Dennis Gavyn, Nelson, Ryder Holmes and Wyatt Underhill was first in the sprint medley relay (2:50.17). Rigling, Underhill, Jayce Methner and Logan Churchill were first in the distance medley relay (12:40.35).

“We’re having a very good season,” Bucks coach Renee Stieg said. “We have quite a few kids. All-around we’re a strong team this year. Everybody is doing well.”

Pine River girls won the sprint medley relays (3:07.86).
