The Wildcats lost this home game on Friday in Highland Conference action. Skylar Baumgardner had 13 points while Addy Gray added 10 and Kara Henry had seven.

McBain 66, Pine River 49

LEROY - Pine River fell to 1-1 with Wednesday's Highland Conference loss to McBain.

Pine River led 10-7 after the first quarter and were down 36-21 at halftime and 50-35 going into the fourth.

Hailey Wanstead had 23 points and eight rebounds. CorNehsa Holmes had 14 points and four rebounds. Madi Sparks added seven rebounds, four assists and three points.

"That was the best game CorNesha Homes has played," Pine River coach Paula Justin said. "She played well tonight. And of course, Hailey did. When you have 23 points and eight rebounds, you played quite well."

Pine River 67, Beal City 26

LEROY -- Pine River improved to 2-1 with this Highland Conference win on Friday. It was 30-16, Bucks, at halftime.

Hailey Wanstead had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Bucks. Lynn Belvin had 11 points. Madi Sparks had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

"It was a good effort on everyone's part," Pine River coach Paula Justin said.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Beal City 54, Pine River 53 (OT)

BEAL CITY - A 3-point shot at the buzzer lifted Beal City past Pine River (0-2, 0-2) on Thursday in Highland Conference action.

Garett Sumpter had 15 points and Isaiah Dennis had 11, followed by Jayce Methner with 10.

"Sumpter had a couple of key threes in the game to put us in the overtime and give us a chance to play on," Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. "He also hit a key 3-pointer in overtime that gave us a lead. We were ahead by two with two seconds to go. Beal City got the inbounds and their kid made a great shot at the buzzer for the game winner for them.

"It was a heartbreaker. I'm proud of my kids who played their hearts out. I'm heartbroken they weren't able to get a win having played so hard."
