BOYS SOCCER Suttons Bay 3, Pine River 1 LEROY – The Pine River varsity soccer finished its season on Wednesday, Oct. 14 against Suttons Bay. The Bucks played the best half of the season holding Suttons Bay to a 0-0 tie at halftime. Daniel Leydet stopped all shots, including a penalty kick in the first half, to add another half of shutouts to his growing list of perfect halves in goal this year. He ended the day with 17 saves. “For the first time all season, the Bucks offense dominated play as we had the first two shots on goal in the game and continued doing a good job moving the ball up the field throughout the first half,” Pine River coach Dave Fisher said. “In the second half, Lukas Fisher scored the team’s lone goal on a penalty shot after Nathan Marks received a hard hit in the 18 -yard box. Suttons Bay got a quick goal in the beginning of the second half and two goals late in the game to go on to beat the Bucks 3-1 in district play.” FOOTBALL Lake City 36, Pine River 13 LEROY – Pine River fell to 1-4 with its fourth straight loss on Friday. “We played with good effort but had some unfortunate times with turnovers and penalties that really cost us,” Bucks coach Terry Martin said. “It was senior night and some of our seniors had very good nights. Gavyn Nelson ran the ball well at fullback, Isaac McKinley led the receivers and had a huge interception in the end zone. “Andrew Stevens also had a couple big catches and runs on offense. Zack Lemmon led the defense in tackles.” Pine River is at Evart on Thursday. VOLLEYBALL Newaygo 3, Reed City 0 NEWAYGO – Reed City lost 3-0 on the road Tuesday (Oct. 13) in CSAA action 25-18, 25-22, 25-13. For Reed City Demi Lodholtz had four kills, one ace and seven blocks; Kyleigh Weck had three kills, three blocks and two digs; Makena Hill had three digs; Madison Stellini two aces, five assists and two blocks; Katelynn Holmes eight kills, three aces, one block and 11 digs; Christina Malackanich had one kill, two blocks and two digs; Rylie Olds had one kill, 10 assists and six digs; Rylie Shafer had 12 digs; Elizabeth Cockrell 24 digs; Raquel DuBreuil two aces and 1 dig and Heather VanSyckle two kills and three digs. Pine River LUDINGTON -- Pine River’ varsity volleyball traveled to Ludington on Saturday and went 2-1. Pine River lost to Ludington 25-12, 25-12, beat Benzie Central 25-22, 25-21 and topped Reed City 16-25, 25-17,15-9. Emma Whitley has 16 kills and 15 digs; Madi Sparks added nine kills and 12 digs and Sydney Edstrom, Alicia Lindsay and Avery Sumpter added great defensive help averaging 12 digs apiece. “It was great to get a couple of wins under our belt today but our main focus is just getting ourselves ready for districts,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said. “We have some little things to work on and are focusing a lot of time on being consistent and effectively communicating.” CROSS COUNTRY Pine RIver at Montabella Blue Division For the boys on Friday, Pine River was second among five teams at 43, Morley Stanwood was fifth at 125. Logan Churchill was third (17:52.48) for Pine River while Jayce Methner was fourth (17:53.20), Phillip Rigling eighth (18:18.12), Landyn Cool ninth (18:18.7) and Scott Slocum 19th (19:54.44).
