Pine River 3, Marion 2

MARION — The Pine River volleyball team came away with a 3-2 win against Marion (25-21,25-10,15-25,26-28,15-9) on Oct. 7.

The Bucks (15-15-2, 2-2 Highland Conference) were led by Morgan Sumpter and Jenna Johnson, who each had 16 assists.

Kyla Johnson had 11 kills and 7 digs while Julie Justin and Tailor Charles had 10 and 11 digs, respectively.


Burt Lake 7, Pine River 2

LEROY — The Pine River boys soccer team dropped its final home game of the regular-season, 7-2, to Burt Lake in a conference crossover Tuesday.

Burt Lake was up 4-0 at halftime.

Jeff Thompson scored three goals for Burt Lake while Alex Vandewacht had two and Josiah Fosmore and Sam Cope had one apiece. Jimmy Martin was goalkeeper. Burt Lake is 7-10-1.

Lucas Harris and Zach Underhill scored for Pine River, which is 0-12.

Pine River ended its regular season Thursday at Forest Area in a 6-0 loss.

Lakeview 4, Reed City 1

LAKEVIEW  — Lakeview handed Reed City a 4-1 setback in the final regular season game for the two soccer teams.

The lone goal for Reed City was an own goal scored by Lakeview.


Local teams at Manistee

MANISTEE — Evart and Reed City’s cross country teams ran at the Chris Grabowski Memorial Invitational at Manistee on Thursday. Evart was third at 70 points. Reed City did not have a full boys team. Santana Scott won for Evart with a time of 17:14.91. Josh Woods was sixth in 18:00.29, Micah Wetters was 14th in 19:29.94, Andrew Bengry was 21st in 20:11.63, Nick Niles was 33rd in 21:43.7 and Jacob Quist was 41st in 23:15.12.

For Reed City, Matt McGahey was 16th in 19:56.0 and Trent Willard was 52nd in 27:13.66.

Reed City girls were fifth with 116 points. Joelynn Gamble-Brown was 10th in 22:29.14 while Lindsey Greer was 23rd in 24:24.06, Emily Nardone was 32nd in 26:38.21, McKenzie Cornelius was 34th in 27:04.42 and Lindsey Kienitz was 37th in 27:16.0.

Evart didn’t have a full team, but was led by Clariese Clark, who was 17th in 23;05.36, Mara VanOrder 25th in 24:43.96, Brooklyn Elenbaas 35th in 27:08.68 and Arianna Mooney 41st in 28:07.19.

Both teams are at Chippewa Hills on Saturday.
