VOLLEYBALL

Reed City at Shepherd

SHEPHERD — Reed City’s volleyball team was at Shepherd on Saturday and went 0-4 in pool play. The Coyotes lost to Beal City 25-15, 25-18, Bay City Central 25-15, 25-7, Hemlock 25-20, 25-22, and Bath 25-10, 25-11.

“I thought we played solid defense and served well on the day,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said. “We struggled offensively against some pretty sound defensive teams. Alison Schermerhorn and Hanna Price played really solid defense again. We continue to play well but struggled to finish games out.”

For the Coyotes, Skiler Brigham had two aces, 12 kills, three blocks and seven digs; Schermerhorn contributed 12 kills and 44 digs; Meghan Borst had three kills and three digs; Price had four aces and 43 digs; Liza Emington had two aces and 13 digs; Jordyn Storch had 11 digs; Brenna Westhoff added three kills and three digs; Megan Donley had three kills, two blocks and six digs and Ally Yarger had seven aces, seven kills and 29 digs.

Reed City plays at Mount Pleasant on Saturday.

Grant 3, Reed City 0

GRANT — Reed City lost 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 to Grant in CSAA Gold Division action on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Skiler Brigham had six kills, two digs, one ace and one block for Reed City, while Alison Schermerhorn had seven kills, six digs and one ace; Megan Borst added two kills, one block and one dig; Hanna Price had 13 digs; Liza Emington had 10 assists, Jordan Storch added four digs and nine assists and Brenna Westhoff had two kills.

Megan Donley had two kills and one dig while Ally Yarger had nine digs.

Reed City at Shelby

SHELBY — Big Rapids started with a 25-23 setback against Reed City, but the Cardinals recovered to win the second set 25-16 and the decisive third set, 15-7 in action Thursday. Reed City also lost to Shelby 25-22, 25-11. 

For the night, Hannah Price had three aces and Ally Yarger two for the Coyotes. Skiler Brigham and Alison Schermerhorn had eight kills apiece while Ally Harger had five kills and Megan Donley three. 

Megan Borst added two blocks, Schermerhorn had 33 digs while Price contributed 19 digs, Yarger had 14, Jordyn Storch added 10 and Lisa Emington had seven.

Storch had 14 assists while Emington had 12.

CROSS COUNTRY

Reed City at CSAA jamboree

STANTON — At a Central State Activities Association (CSAA) Gold Division Jamboree at Central Montcalm on Tuesday, Sept. 30, Reed City didn’t log a team score for the boys, but Matt McGahey finished 25th (19:36.89) and Trent Willard came in 61st (27:36.00).

In the girls race, Reed City came in fifth (110).

Joelynn Gamble-Brown finished seventh for the Coyotes (22:21.65), followed by Lindsey Greer in 20th (24:13.12), McKenzie Cornelius in 27th (24:42.92), Lindsey Kienitz in 35th (26:10.90) and Hana Ondrus in 36th (26:19.95).

Pine River football relay

LEROY — The Pine River and Manton cross county teams are running a football relay from Pine River through Cadillac to Manton High School to bring the game ball Friday  for the football game between the two schools. 

Groups of 4-to-6 runners at a time will run a leg of 3-to-5 miles and hand off the ball to the next group. Starting around 8 a.m., Pine River groups of runners will carry the ball from LeRoy to Cadillac and hand it off to the Ranger runners to bring it from Cadillac to their pep assembly at the end of Manton’s school day on Friday.

Highland Conference jamboree

LAKE CITY — Evart was second and Pine River third on Sept. 30 in a Highland Conference cross country jamboree at Lake City.

Beal City was first at 36, while Evart was second at 62, Manton third at 83 and Pine River fourth at 85.

For Evart, Santana Scott was second at 16:48.56, Josh Woods fourth at 17:23.19, Devin Day 13th at 18:06.99, Micah Wetters 14th at 18:20.32 and Andrew Bengry 30th at 19:42.60.

“We’re pretty solid in second place,” Evart coach Kevin Mills said.

Pine River was led by Ben Rigling, fifth at 16:26.23. Derek Hartline was 10th at 18:01.01, Tony Moore was 17th at 18:39.1 Jordan Stone was 21st at 18:56.76 and Mark Geer was 33rd at 19:49.43.

The Pine River girls were third with 98 and Evart seventh at 167. For Pine River, Cheyanna Rizor was sixth in 20:59.15, Olivia Thompson was 17th in 22:12.25, Julia Lucas was 20th in 22:52.87, Holly Bailor was 25th in 23:36.7, Alyssa Geer was 31st in 24:24 and Rachel DePew 32nd in 25:00.3.

Evart was led by Clairese Clark, 18th in 22;34.78, Mara VanOrder, 24th in 23:29.46, Arianna Mooney, 44th in 27:39.33, and Brooklyn Elenbaas, 46th in 28:27.59.

SOCCER

Crossroads 5, Reed City 2

REED CITY — The Crossroads Charter Academy boys soccer team recorded a 5-2 win against Reed City on Thursday.

On Monday, Reed City lost 5-0 to Kent City in CSAA action. Troy Giese was keeper for the Coyotes.
