GIRLS BASKETBALL PINE RIVER 40, MANTON 23 MANTON \u2014 The Pine River girls basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season on Dec. 10 against the Manton Rangers 40-23. Pine River was led by Kassy Nelson who contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Bucks. Other big nights for the Bucks came from Michelle Kelsey with 11 points and seven steals while Cheyanna Rizor added seven points and five rebounds for Pine River. McBAIN NMC 64, EVART 41 McBAIN \u2014 The Evart girls basketball team dropped a 64-41 contest to McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Dec. 10 Mara VanOrder had 10 points for Evart while Tabitha Turley had nine points and\u00a0Natalie Belleville had eight points. COMPETITIVE CHEER Evart took third place among 10 teams in its division in the Houghton Lake Competitive Cheer Meet on Saturday to open the season. \u201cWe were first among Highland Conference opponents,\u201d said Evart coach Marty Pattee. \u201cThe two teams that finished ahead of us (overall) are teams that were a division up from us last year. But their school populations dropped. I\u2019m not used to competing against those two (Harrison and Houghton Lake).\u201d Route 3 was Evart\u2019s strongest round, Pattee said. The first round features motions and jumps. Round 2 has gymnastics skills. Round 3 features stunts and tumbling. Pine River also competed. \u201cThey did pretty good,\u201d said Pine River coach Tiffany Lindquist. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t their highest scores. But it was just to get them on the floor and see what we need to work on. We didn\u2019t have our third round complete. We\u2019re working on finishing our third round and improve our rounds 1 and 2.\u201d Evart is at Grandville Jan. 4. Pine River is at Brethren Jan.11.
