Reed City 1-3

CADILLAC — Reed City was 1-3 Thursday in volleyball action at the Cadillac Invitational on Thursday.

The Coyotes defeated McBain 25-18, 25-13 and lost to Pellston 25-18, 13-25, 15-13; Traverse City 25-23, 25-23 and Lowell 25-12, 25-6.

“We played really well at times,” said Reed City coach Don Patterson. “We played like it was really early in the season at other teams.”

Jacolyn Mullins had 21 kills and five aces and Heather Tacey added 10 aces and 46 assists.


Newaygo 7, Reed City 0

NEWAYGO — Reed City fell to 1-3 with a 7-0 loss to Newaygo Tuesday night, Aug. 27.

Troy Giese was goalkeeper and had 16 saves for Reed City

Evart boys third

HESPERIA — Evart’s boys cross country team was third among 11 team in Wednesday’s Hesperia Invitational.

Benzie Central was first at 33, Saugatuck second at 77 and Evart third at 116. Hesperia was fourth at 124.

For Evart, Max Hodges was 10th at 20:03.7, while Santana Scott was 16th at 20:33, Josh Woods 23rd at 20:49, Zach Douglas 34th at 21:26.6 and Ryan Tuttle 48th at 22;08,9,

For the Evart girls, Grace Hamilton was 14th at 24:24.5, Clairese Clark 44th at 27:34, Brooke Belleville 87th at 30:58.4 and Stevie Duey 113th at 36y:03.5.

Reed City girls second at CSAA

REMUS — Reed City’s girls team also is breaking in a lot of new runners this season, with just one returning varsity member, but had a surprise with a second-place finish in the blue division of the Chippewa Hills Invitational with 54 points last week. The Coyotes finished behind first place Clare with 16 points.

Reed City’s McKenzie Cornelius (25:04.47) led the way with a 60th place finish on Tuesday, Aug. 27

“I was kind of surprised, I didn’t really expect us to place,” Reed City coach Brad Smith said. “We have a young team with only one returning runner, so everyone else is new. I’m very happy with how they’re performing right now.”

The Reed City boys had three runners with Kris Kellogg 53rd in 20:54.14, Matt McGahey 56th in 21:01.25 and Drake Walker 60th in 21:23.31.
