GIRLS BASKETBALL PINE RIVER 55, LAKE CITY 23 LAKE CITY\u00a0\u2014 The Pine River Bucks girls basketball team improved to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the Highland conference on Thursday night in a 55-23 win over Lake City. Kassy Nelson led the Bucks with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Kierra Justin also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Michelle Kelsey chipped in 10 points in the victory and Julie Justin had eight points, seven assists and 11 steals. BOYS BASKETBALL PINE RIVER 55, MARION 34 MARION \u2014 The Pine River boys basketball team kept its \u00a0perfect record in Highland Conference play intact with a 55-34 victory over Marion on Friday. The Bucks (14-1, 11-0 Highland) rode a 31-13 halftime lead to victory as Mitchell McDonald led Pine River with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Brandon Hoaglund recorded eight points while Lucas Harris had eight points and rebounds apiece and Greg Parks had five points and 12 rebounds off the bench. \u201cWe struggled shooting, once again,\u201d said Pine River coach Brian Goodenow. \u201cBoth teams did. Our defense bailed us out. We limited their opportunities. We rebounded much better than we have. We\u2019ll be fine.\u201d PINE RIVER 59, MCBAIN NMC 27 LEROY\u00a0\u2014 The Pine River Bucks boys basketball team improved to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in Highland Conference play on Tuesday night (Feb. 11) with a 59-27 victory over McBain Northern Michigan Christian. The Bucks were up just 25-16 at halftime but outscored NMC 34-11 in the second half to pick up the conference win. Skyler Nelson led the way for the Bucks with 15 points while Mitchell McDonald contributed 14 points and six rebounds. Brandon Hoaglund had nine rebounds in the victory and Brandon Fulks made an impact off the bench with seven boards. Lucas Harris also swiped six rebounds.
