Pine River fourth

LEROY — Pine River’s boys track teams placed fourth on Friday at the Cadillac Invitational.

Cole Gingrich was first in the pole vault (14-5) with a school record. Ben Rigling won both the 400 and 800, and Colton Rawson was first in the long jump.

For the girls, Robyn Peppy was first in the put while Mary Ware was first in the discus and second in the shot.

Pine River is at the Marion Invitational Thursday.

Reed City girls

NEWAYGO — Reed City’s girls track team tied for fifth among eight teams at Friday’s Newaygo Invitational. The Coyotes and Orchard View both had 66 points. Hanna Price was second in the 100 meters (13.56) and won the 100-meter hurdles (18.17) and 300 meter hurdles (55.0). Catherne Kettner was sixth in the 800 meters (3:01.44).

The 4x100 relay team of Marie Kinsey, Emily Libby, Keylee Aemisegger, and Price (54.73). Aemisegger (28-7.5) Kelsey Wright (28-0.75) and Lily Heald were fifth, sixth and seventh in the shot put. Aemisegger tied for fourth in the high jump (4-4).

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Reed City 3-13, Manton 4-2

MANTON — Julian Griffin earned the win in Game 1  and had four strikeouts in two losses last Wednesday.

Skiler Brigham was 5 for 5 at the plate in Game 2 as Sidni Rushford earned the win.

Manistee 8-5, Pine River 5-7

MANISTEE — Pine River’s softball team lost to Manistee 8-5 and then won the second game in nonleague action on April 14.

Kourtney Brock was the losing pitcher in the first game. Erin Millen had three hits while Jenna Johnson and Kyla Johnson had two apiece. Johnson had two RBIs.

Dana Hill was the winning pitcher in the second game. She scattered three hits and struck out five. Johnson, KayLee Goodman and Paige VanHulst had two hits apiece. VanHulst had two RBIs.

BASEBALL

Evart 1-1

EVART — Evart was 1-1 at the Beaverton tournament on Saturday.

The Wildcats beat Oscoda 6-3 in Game 1. Andrew Maxwell got the win. “He pitched great,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “If it wasn’t for our errors he would have pitched a shutout.”

Andrew Bengry, Chris Imhoff, Trevin Ladd, Layne Nadig, Cody Pritchard, Robbie Tapling, Nolan VanOrder and Adam Zinger all had singles. Zinger had two RBIs while and Imhoff, Ladd and Nadig with one each. Trevin Ladd stole two bases.

“We gave up three runs in the first on errors and then the rest of the game played real solid defensively,” Johnson said. “Ladd and Imhoff played real good defense for us.”

In the final game, Pine River lost 17-2 to Beaverton.

“Our pitching struggled,” Johnson said. “Walks, hit batters, and leaving the ball up caused Beaverton to constantly have guys on base.”

Leading Evart with singles were Bengry, Imhoff, Ladd, Nadig, Kirk Retter, Tapling and Zinger. Bengry, Ladd and Nadig had RBIs.

Evart will host Montabella this Thursday and Coleman on Friday.

GOLF

Reed City golf

REED CITY — Reed City’s golf team opened its season Friday at the Royal Golf Course Canadian Lakes in a scramble. Brady Slater and Bryce Grannis had a combine score of 95. “Those are my No. 5 and 6 golfers and they turned in the best scores,” Reed City coach Katrina Wray said.

Colt Start and Tyler Wright had a 96.

Coming up for Reed City are matches at Lakeview this Wednesday and next Monday.
