Pine River JVs split

BIG RAPIDS — Pine River’s junior varsity baseball team lost the first game 20-5 and then won the second 8-4 against Crossroads Wednesday in a doubleheader.

Tristan Nelson had two hits in the first game while Mac Peterson had an RBI and hit. Raden Holmes, Preston Prusch and Matt Stone also had hits.

Stone pitched four strong innings in the second game.


Bradfords at Davenport

REED CITY — Reed City natives and twin brothers Eric and Michael Bradford are in their sophomore outdoor track seasons at Davenport University. Eric Bradford last season was named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Champions of Character team. He went 5.89 meters in the long jump at the WHAC Championship and jumped as far as 11.35 meters in the triple jump at Aquinas’ Ernie Mousseau Classic.

Michael Bradford ran last season ran for a time of 24.75 in the 200-meter dash at the Bellarmine Invitational and jumped for a distance of 6.05 meters in the long jump at the Grand Valley State Al Owens Classic and reached 11.99 meters in the triple jump at Aquinas’ Ernie Mousseau Classic.


Gatt at Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS — Former Pine River softball player Cayman Gatt is in her freshman season at Davenport and is playing shortstop. She scored a run as a pinch runner last month in a game against Lindsey Wilson University of Kentucky.

Steig has two hits

REED CITY — Former Reed City all-conference softball player Amanda Steig had two hits and an RBI on March 30 for Cleary, Mich., in a 13-5 loss in the second game of a doubleheader at Madonna. Steig also pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on five hits, striking out one and walking none.

Cleary lost the first game 11-1. Steig had a hit and 0.2 innings of shutout ball.
