Sports News in Brief

Evart girls

EVART — The Evart girls basketball team lost Saturday at Lake City. No further information was available. On Feb. 17, Evart defeated White Cloud 50-36. Kristen Kullman scored 21 points.

“We came out and played fairly well,” Evartt coach Paul Higgins said. “(Defense) helped in getting us going offensively. We got turnovers enough to get more shots at the basket. That helps.”

Evart is 5-12, and plays at Marion on Wednesday and at McBain on Friday.

Final meet

MUSKEGON — Both Evart and Pine River had their final competitive cheer meets of the season Saturday at Muskegon-West Michigan Christian.

Evart took seventh out of 12 teams.

“I thought the girls performed really well in Round 3,” Evart coach Marty Pattee said. “That’s what moved them up three places after the first two rounds.”

Pattee said with additional athletes coming up from the junior high, “we should be in good shape” for next year.

Pine River took ninth place.

“Round 3 was the best they’ve ever done,” Pine River coach Emilee Crawford said.
