Sophomore pitcher looking at another strong varsity season

REED CITY —  Logan Straub was basically satisfied with his freshman season of varsity baseball for Reed City, but is especially optimistic of good fortunes during his sophomore campaign.

Straub is a sophomore for the Coyotes but played on varsity as a freshman.

“It went pretty good, but not as good as we hoped, you could say,” he said.

Straub had three home runs at the plate. He was a pitcher and second baseman. He’s a right-hander on the mound.

Pitching last season “went all right, for my first year in high school,” he said. “I really want to focus on my off-speed pitches.”

Straub is looking at being a smarter pitcher this season.

Defensively in the infield, Straub is looking to be improved in that area.

Ditto for hitting.

“I’ve put more work into that this year,” Straub said. “I need to be smarter on what the count is.”

Like most teams, the Coyotes are hoping to improve as they get more outside action.

This week, Reed City plays at Pine River Thursday and at Sanford Meridian Saturday.

“A winning season and hopefully districts would be among the season goals,” Straub said. “We need to put time into it.”
