Sophomore pitcher-infielder has high hopes for Pine River

LEROY  —  Bekah Dean is expecting to make key contributions for Pine River’s softball team this season.

Dean last year started on the JVs and came back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“I got brought up toward the end of the season but didn’t play because of the injury,” Dean said.

But Dean entered this season healthy and is slated to play third base and shortstop and pitch.

As an infielder,” I have a really good (throw) from third base,” she said. “From shortstop, I have good range.”

Dean is looking for speed to help her as a pitcher.

“I’m working on my accuracy with my pitching,”  she said. “In the winter I pitched a lot, but I also played basketball.”

As a hitter, she’s expecting to produce for the Bucks and deliver a lot of RBIs.

“I see the ball well,” Dean said. “I have a lot of power.”

This week, the Bucks play at Big Rapids on Wednesday and have a home tournament on Saturday.

“We’re pretty good, but we have a lot of work to do,” Dean said. “I really think if we pull together, we can win districts and conference. We play with our heart and we love the sport.”
