Sophomore has strong season for Wildcats
EVART -- Katie Rueffer was very impressive for the Evart volleyball coaches during her sophomore season.
Rueffer was among the reasons the Wildcats were able to enjoy a substantial amount of improvement during the 2019 campaign.
This marked her first varsity season. The first week of the season, she found out she would be playing on the varsity.
"I was nervous," Rueffer said. "It took awhile (to adjust). Communicating with older teammates (was initially a challenge)."
Rueffer initially played middle hitter but then moved to outside. The key to being an effective outside hitter, "is hitting it hard," Rueffer said. "I try. I hit (the lines)."
The Wildcats have improved their various team skills.
"We're communicating more and our attitudes are getting better," Rueffer said late in the season. "We've gotten better as a team."
She continually worked on her passing.
"You have to get low," she said.
Rueffer did basketball at one time but is now focusing on volleyball.
"I'll practice at home and do workouts," she said.
