REED CITY — Reed City has not played since early last week, but the Coyote soccer team is set for a district semifinal test on Thursday against either Big Rapids or Manistee at Ludington.

“We’ve just been getting ready for districts this week,” said Reed City coach Matt Webster. “We’ve been working on defense as a unit.”

Reed City has played both Manistee and Big Rapids in regular season action.

“I would imagine Big Rapids would have the edge,” Webster said, when asked to compare the two teams. It could be close between those two.”

Webster has seen some progress being made since the season started in August.

Pine River played Tuesday at Ludington in a district opening round game with hopes of advancing to action later this week.

Webster said he anticipated Ludington would be the tourney favorite.

The Bucks last week gained a 7-6 shootout win over Burt Lake for its first victory of the season.

“The kids played well,” said Pine River coach Jenny Hoaglund. “Unfortunately, the season is coming to an end.”

Reed City late in the season won its second game, 4-1, over Kingsley.
