Smith confident Coyotes can have another huge football season

REED CITY — The Reed City Coyotes will start their bid for a fifth straight Central State Activities Association title on Thursday and seniors like Schuyler Smith like the team’s chances of successfully pursuing another championship.

Smith (6-4, 205) an outside linebacker and tight end, is among the key returnees for this season’s team. He started on defense last year and was a role player on offense.

“I got a lot of experience playing defense,” he said. “I learned a lot. It’s a lot faster than JVs. That’s probably the biggest thing.”

Smith was extremely active during the offseason.

“It puts us so far ahead of everybody,” Smith said. “Not too many teams do things every day like we do.”

Smith liked how the Coyotes performed in their preseason scrimmage and the team was able to coast past Baldwin in the season opener.

“The bar’s been set high so we just have to break through it again, just like last year,” Smith said. “We have to play together. If we play together and hustle, that’s two big keys.”
