REED CITY — Ryan Simmons is on pace to have an outstanding finish as a Reed City wrestler this season.

Simmons has been having a strong regular season as he gets ready for huge upcoming meets. He’s at the Lakeview Invitational on Saturday and Reed City has its home invitational on Jan. 26.

The Central State Activities Association meets is Feb. 2, followed by the postseason with team and individual district meets.

It’s his senior year and he’s at 119. He was 112 last year. He’s already passed 100 wins but has yet to qualify for the state finals, a key goal for him this season.

“I need to work hard and get more escapes,” he said.

Simmons was 14-2 after his first 16 matches.

He was 112 last year and is taking on the challenges of 119 this winter.

“I’m getting better at riding people more and taking them down,” he said. “I’m trying to get around 140 wins (for his career).”

His takedowns and shots “are working pretty good for me this year,” Simmons said. “I want to work better on escapes and getting away from the bottom.”

The team “is looking pretty good for being so young,” Simmons said. “We have a lot of new wrestlers.”
