Several area football players receive All-State honors

REED CITY — The Associated Press has honored several area Division 5 and 6 football players with all-state honors, it was announced last week.

Junior lineman Billy Koepf of Chippewa Hills and senior defensive back Brandon Evans of Reed City were named to the first team, running back Logan Straub and coach Monty Price to the second team and quarterbacks Nick Huntey of Morley Stanwood and Mason Powell of Pine River, receiver Hunter Esiline of Pine River and specialist DJ Lowery of Chppewa Hills to the honorable mention list.

Evans had 34 tackles and nine interceptions this season, plus five pass breakups for a Reed City team that won a district title.

Straub, a running back-linebacker, had 109 carries for 1,074 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Price has coached Reed City to two district titles and six Central State Activities Association titles the past six years. He’s had five undefeated teams the last six regular seasons.

Chippewa Hills was 9-2 and Koepf played a key role in that success. He had 76 tackles, nine tackles for loss and six sacks. “He has the ability to take away a side of an offense with his run stopping ability,” Jose said. “He’s a great offensive linemen.”

Lowery had 361 yards on punt and kick returns.

For regional champion Pine River, Powell passed for 999 yards and rushed for 855 yards and had 26 combined touchdowns. Esiline caught 21 passes for 848 yards and 11 touchdowns.
