Senior outside hitter getting job done for Bucks volleyball

LEROY — She’s a senior and Michelle Kelsey is bidding to have her best season as a Pine River volleyball player and outside hitter. Kelsey was encouraged with the team’s improvement in its recent home invitational with the Bucks advancing to the semifinals.

“We played a lot better today than we have been,” she said. “All around we improved.”

It’s Kelsey’s second varsity season.

“I think I have improved a lot in my confidence and in my game,” she said. “I have improved on watching where the open spots are and knowing where to put the ball.”

Kelsey hopes to improve on her serving and defense.

“I want to have better control of the ball and being more consistent,” she said.

The Bucks hope to be a factor in the Highland Conference.

“I think we’re doing pretty good,” Kelsey said. “We have a very young team and have a lot to learn. It’s (early) season. We have time.”

Beal City and McBain will be the teams to beat in the Highland, she indicated.

“It will take some trust and take us getting our serves over,” Kelsey said. “We’re struggling on serving.” But Kelsey expects constant improvement.

“Our young players are finding themselves and finding a spot on this team and knowing where they belong,” she said.
