REED CITY — Riley Lawson is among the few returning players to this year’s Reed City softball team trying to help the Coyotes overcome their youth and get some wins on the board.

The Coyotes, Lawson said, haven’t been hitting the ball too well in recent games and need to get the bats going.

“I need to keep my head in and stay focused,” she said after a recent game

She’s a senior in her second year on the squad. Lawson played with the Coyotes last season when they went to the state quarterfinals.

“We definitely are young and have to remember to play as a team, stay focused or we’re not going anywhere,” said Lawson.

Lawson plays left field for Reed City.

“I’ve come a long way on my throwing and hitting,” she said ‘”We have to play as a team, communicate and not let ourselves get down. We’re starting to play as a team. (Because of the weather) we were cooped up inside for a long time.”

The Coyotes hope to get better and improve in the remaining weeks of the season.

“We want to play as a team and become a family,” Lawson said.
