REED CITY — Manton had a four-run sixth inning against Reed City, posting a 6-5 win in a predistrict game last Wednesday at Evart.

The loss ended the season for the Coyotes.

Olivia Kinkel’s three-run double in the sixth gave Manton a 6-4 lead. Syndi Arnold had an RBI single in the seventh for Reed City but it wasn’t enough.

“We just had the one bad inning, the top of the sixth, when we had some untimely errors,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “Other than that, our kids played a pretty good ballgame. Manton’s a good ballclub. They had a good pitcher (Emily Bode). I thought we hit the ball well against her.

“The first time we played them it went three extra innings and we won during the regular season. This was the same type of game but it went their way.”

Reed City had 10 hits against the 25-8 Rangers. Arnold, Alex Baughan, Sam McDowell and Courtney Morgan had two hits apiece.

“The good thing is that we’re young and we’re only graduating one senior,” Roger Steig said. “We have everybody else back.”

Sam Bonnett is the lone graduate.

“From the start of the season to the end the girls made enormous strides,” Steig said.

Reed City ended at 16-13 and was 8-8 in the Central State Activities Association.
