REED CITY -- Zac Saez is one of the few familiar faces returning to the Reed City boys basketball lineup this season.

But the Coyote senior still has some good feelings of what his team might be able to accomplish this season.

Reed City has finished its second week of the preseason. Saez is entering his fourth year on the varsity.

The first three seasons "went well, I learned a lot," Saez said. "But we haven't reached our goals of winning a district championship or a conference championship."

Past wins against Big Rapids was a highlight for Saez and the Coyotes, who also had an impressive win over league power Fremont early in the season.

"I don't think we have the same amount of talent as we did last year but we have a lot of heart and a lot of effort," Saez said.

Saez and Payton Hansen are the only returning players with a lot of returning time.

Saez will be spending a lot of time at point guard again.

"I think my mental part has improved a lot and I've become more coachable," he said. "How fast we play will be a key to our success."

Reed City has a new coach with Jesse Kailing.

"We're going through a new offense and a whole new style of play," Saez said. "Once we get it down we will be hard to stop."

The season starts at home on Dec. 13 against Fremont.

"Fremont is always tough, we have Alma for non-conference and Big Rapids has a lot of returners," Saez said.
