BASEBALL-SOFTBALL

Osceola County Co-ed Royal Rumble

LEROY — Pine River will be hosting the Osceola County Co-ed Royal Rumble this Saturday for both baseball and softball.

On the baseball diamond, it’s Pine River vs. Evart at 9:30 a.m., Evart vs. Marion at 11:30 a.m. and Marion vs. Pine River at 1:30 p.m. For softball, it’s Pine River vs. Marion at 9:30 a.m., Marion vs. Evart at 11:30 a.m. and Evart vs. Pine River at 1:30 p.m.

There are plans to have the tournament rotate each year. There’s a six-inning limit for baseball and seven innings for softball with the international tiebreaker in effect if the game is tied at the end of regulation. If a tie occurs for the championship between schools, the winner will be determined by the lowest number of runs allowed and if necessary, highest number of runs scored.

The winner will be determined by totaling the finish place of each schools teams. The low score wins. For instance, a first place in softball and a second place in baseball will be a score of three. There will be one trophy presented to the winning school’s baseball and softball teams.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Orchard View 12, 9 Pine River 0, 23

MUSKEGON — Pine River split with Orchard View, losing 12-0 in the first game, but taking the second 23-9 in nonleague softball action on Friday.

Alexis Bennett was the losing pitcher. Kourtney Brock pitched in relief. Chelsey TerBurgh had Pine River’s only hit.

In the second game, the Bucks had a 19-7 hits advantage. Dana Hill was the winning pitcher. She allowed seven hits and six walks in four innings. Kourtney Brock had the save in relief. KayLee Goodman had three singles, a double and three RBIs, Taylor Warner had two singles a home run and three RBIs, Brock had two singles and one RBI, Jenna Johnson had a single and four RBIs, Kyla Johnson had a single, double and three RBIs, Ally Stokely had two singles and two RBIs and Hannah Hill had two RBIs.

Pine River is at Big Rapids on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Pine River 8, 4 Orchard View 3, 11

MUSKEGON — Pine River opened the first game of a doubleheader on Friday with an 8-3 victory over Orchard View, before losing the second game 11-4.

Grant Ruppert picked up the win in the first game, allowing one earned run and pitching all seven innings. Mason Powell had a triple and Dillon Loop delivered a triple. Matt Stone had a single and RBI.

Powell was the losing pitcher in the second game. He gave up three earned runs. He had a triple and two RBI. Loop had a single and RBI.

Pine River is at Big Rapids on Wednesday.
